When Should School Start Next Year? North Penn Taking Survey

The district has put a survey up on its website seeking input from parents about when the 2015-2016 school year should begin.

We may be less than two months into the current school year, but North Penn officials are already looking ahead to next September. Specifically, the district is seeking input on when the 2015-2016 school year should begin.

A survey up on the North Penn School District website aims to gather input from parents about the preferred time for the next school year to start.

“Because the 2015 Labor Day is the latest it can be, (September 7), if started on September 8th, the 180-day student school year would not end until Wednesday, June 15, 2016. More than two snow days added to the end of the school year, would take students into the final weeks of June,” the district said on its website.

The online survey has three options:

  • Option 1: Begin the school year on Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Students would attend three days that week through Thursday, September 3, 2015. After an extended Labor Day weekend (off Friday and Monday), they would return to school on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. The last day of school would be Friday, June 10, 2016.
  • Option 2: Begin the school year on Tuesday, September 8, 2015. The last day of school would be Wednesday, June 15, 2016.
  • Option 3: Adjust the calendar in some other way (for example begin school on Monday, August 31, 2015, have longer or shorter holiday breaks, etc.)

There is space for comments on the survey.
