FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA —German grocer Lidl is expected to set up shop in the new Keystone Trade Center in a $144.65 million deal to build a warehouse on 69 acres of the former U.S. Steel property.

Jeremy Michael, vice president of Northpoint Development, confirmed the transaction to Patch Monday but would not provide further details about the project. The Philadelphia Business Journal reported that the deal calls for a warehouse complex.

The developer plans to revitalize 1,800 acres of the former U.S. Steel site by constructing 20 or more state-of-the-art industrial warehouse buildings totaling 10 million square feet, with the potential for 15 million square feet.

Officials have said that once complete, the redevelopment will create as many as 14,000 new jobs. NorthPoint paid $160 million for the former U.S. Steel property in Fairless Hills in 2020.

Last October, Falls Township supervisors granted preliminary and final land development approval to NorthPoint to construct a 115,200-square-foot storage facility for Morton Salt at 10 Solar Drive.

In September, Falls Township and NorthPoint announced that a new distribution center was slated to open in Fall 2023. Construction on the new 1.1 million-square-foot facility is currently underway at Keystone Trade Center.

Lidl —which has more than 12,000 locations in 32 nations —did not respond for comment Monday.

Lidl had considered opening a store in the old Pathmark property on York Road in Warminster. That parcel is now being considered for a Tesla dealership and service center.
