Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers Complete a Successful "Scouting for Food" Drive in Levittown

Thanks to the generosity of Levittown residents, 4 area BSA units were able to collect 7500 pounds of food for 7 area food pantries.

Boy scouts, cub scouts and venturers from four units joined forces ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday to collect food items for seven area food pantries. Cub scouts from Pack 123, boy scouts from Troops 123 and 456 along with venturers from Crew 154 fanned out across 10 sections in Levittown as part of the BSA Scouting for Food program. Working in small groups, they retraced the routes they had taken the previous Sunday when they distributed 5000 of the bright yellow bags, collecting the now filled bags.

The group assembled at Indian Creek Playground before returning around noon with over 7500 pounds of food thanks to the generosity of the area residents who have been participating in this food drive for over 10 years. With about 70% of the bags returned, the collection filled two trailers and the beds of four pickup trucks. Most of the food collected was delivered to the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter using a bucket brigade approach. Food was also donated to Philabundance/Preston and Steve’s Campout for Hunger, Joseph A Schumacher VFW Post #1597, Newportville Community Church, ERA Pantry, First Presbyterian Church of Levittown and the Salvation Army.

Asked why he does this year after year, Troop 123 Senior Patrol Leader Tyler Simmons said he feels grateful for all he has this time of year and the wanted to share that by helping others.
