Habitat's ReStore Program Expands into Langhorne
Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County has begun preparations to open its second ReStore location. The Langhorne ReStore.
As a program of Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County, the ReStore supplies overstocked, discontinued, new and used building materials, and household goods that are donated by manufacturers, retail stores, contractors and individuals. “The community’s support is what makes this program work” said B.J. Breish ReStore Director of Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County. These donated items are processed by an army of volunteers (Over 11,900 volunteer hours were logged in 2015 alone) and a handful of mission driven staff to be sold to the public at our ReStore. With the help of its 250,000 customers, 35,000 donors, and tens of thousands of volunteer hours the Chalfont ReStore has net a profit in each of its 7 years. These profits have helped to build over 100 affordable homes for deserving families. In addition to being a sustainable source of revenue for the Habitat Mission the ReStore continues to find ways to support its community in other ways. For example, in 2015 it received the designation of “Landfill Free enterprise” through a new partnership with Sustainable Waste Solutions and its other robust recycling efforts.
“The opening of the new Langhorne ReStore is a vital step in our mission to build communities and empower families in Bucks County” said Florence Kawoczka, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County. “We are excited to bring the ReStore Program into the Langhorne community.”
The new Habitat Restore in Langhorne will join the more than 860 Habitat ReStores located in the United States, Canada, and throughout the world. Though each Habitat for Humanity ReStore is unique, most accept donations of household goods, furniture, appliances and building materials. In 2015, over 3 million ReStore donations diverted more than 124,000 tons of material from landfills nationwide.
