The idea to open a Mindfulness Room at Lee Road Elementary School was formed by Mrs. Anderson who is also the chairperson of Lee Road's Mindfulness Committee, a graduate of the Mindful Schools, "Mindful Teacher" certification program and the adviser of the school's Mindfulness Club.

During this particular visit, Mrs. Anderson's class gathered in the room at the start of the school day to practice breathing techniques and reflect on how they were feeling that day. She reminded the students that emotions are normal as they come and go and encouraged them to relax. At the end of the visit, Mrs. Anderson spoke to her class about gratitude. Each student received a slip of paper and wrote what they were grateful for in that moment. Each slip was placed in a bucket and students received a gratitude journal to fill out throughout the school year.
