Assault Suspect Wanted After Eluding Lower Bucks Police In Manhunt

Authorities said the man, wanted for aggravated assaults, fled police and hit two Bensalem police cruisers Wednesday evening.

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA —A manhunt for a suspect wanted for aggravated assaults was called off Wednesday evening after the man eluded police from several Lower Bucks County departments, authorities said.

Bensalem Township Police said Thursday they have issued an arrest warrant for Joseph Elovens, 33, of Trenton, N.J., charging him with multiple counts of aggravated assault and related offenses.

The other charges include one count to manufacture, deliver or possess with intent to deliver a controlled substance, one count of criminal use of a communication facility, one count of fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, and one count of simple assault.

Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Bensalem Township Police Department was investigating the report of suspicious activity near the 3600 block of Street Road.

As officers attempted to contact the suspect, he fled in his vehicle at a high rate of speed and struck two police vehicles, Bensalem Police said. There were no injuries.

The suspect was operating a white Mercedes SUV which was later recovered, unoccupied, in the area of West Highland Avenue and Hulmeville Ave in Langhorne Manor.

Officers from multiple jurisdictions established a perimeter and a search was conducted utilizing K9s with negative results.

Middletown Township Police Department said it was called by Bucks County Radio at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and advised that the Bensalem Township Police Department was conducting a detail.

The vehicle fled and ended up going northbound on Route 1, police said, adding that it was traveling on a flat tire.

Middletown Township Police responded to the area and were then advised the vehicle had become disabled and the vehicle was now abandoned in the area of Highland Avenue near the border with Middletown Township and Langhorne Manor Borough.

The suspect had fled possibly south into the wooded area.

Bensalem Police asked Middletown Township Police for assistance in setting a perimeter.

They were on scene and had two K-9s that searched the wooded area down to the area of Comley Road.

Police confirmed that Elovens had been in the woods.

Police said that an ATV operator in the woods stated that Elovens tried to take his vehicle.

Eloven's disabled vehicle was towed by Bensalem back to police headquarters. Bensalem Police called off the search at 5:40 p.m.

Officers and detectives from the Bensalem Township, Hulmeville Borough, Langhorne Borough, Langhorne Manor Borough, Middletown Township, Penndel Borough police departments were at the scene.

There were also law enforcement from the Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Game Commission, Bucks County Sheriff’s Office, and Bucks County Rangers assisting, Levittown Now reported.
