Sendoff For Late Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad Chief

About 15 area emergency squad units participated in a procession for Hugh Cooperman, who died suddenly last week.

LEVITTOWN, PA —The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad gave its sendoff to former chief Hugh Cooperman who died last week.

"We said our farewells and thank you’s to Chief “Coop” Cooperman. We gave him the sendoff he so much deserved. He touched so many lives," the emergency squad said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Cooperman worked in the Neshaminy School District for more than 30 years and was head custodian at the middle school at the time of his death, Levittown Now reported.

Cooperman, who served at least three years as chief, died suddenly last Monday.

He had served with the emergency squad for 40 years as "an extremely dedicated and active member" in various positions, including squad chief six years ago.

"He was a life member that was a mentor and well-respected by so many within the community," the squad said in a prior Facebook post. "We ask that you keep Hugh’s family as well as our EMS family in your thoughts."

The emergency squad expressed its thanks to the communities, residents, and municipalities for their "thoughts and condolences through this difficult time."
