In prior years, Pennsbury High seniors were entertained by John Mayer, Maroon 5, DJ Paul D of Jersey Shore, and Questlove.

But with the theme for the 1980s, school officials brought in a performer known as the first Hip Hop act to have a rap song hit the Billboard 100.

That song of course is "Rapper's Delight," which peaked at No. 36 in January 1980. The group never had another U.S. hit but that didn't stop them from Hip Hopping the House at the Pennsbury High School East Campus on Saturday.

Pennsbury’s prom is known for its elaborate decorations.

In 2019, the school shattered the Guinness World Record for the most lipstick kiss prints on a mural. The 63-foot-long, 11-foot-high 3D mural, which used 41,692 kisses, spelled out "Rock Music" to fit the theme of "Prom to the Music."

On Saturday, Every inch of Pennsbury High School’s first-floor halls will be covered in decorations and murals created by students, staff, parents, and community members, all with a 1980's flair, highlighting music, movies, and pop culture.

The main hallway outside of the cafeteria will be transformed into the Imperial Battle Cruiser from the Star Wars movie, "The Empire Strikes Back," and include a replica of R2D2, courtesy of the Pennsbury Robotics Team.

But the Sugarhill Gang was one of the main attractions. Watch a piece of their performance at the prom.

Besides the performance, the group also recorded an interview, discussing their influence and offering advice for high school seniors on the Pennsbury Channel.
