Tamanend District's First Ever Camporee a Success
Scouts from the newly created Tamanend District enjoy games, sports, engineering and a haunted house at Ockanickon Scout Reservation.
It was a perfect fall weekend for the first ever camporee held September 23rd-25th by the newly created Tamanend District. Over 450 campers took part in Ockanickon Olympics at the scout reservation in Pipersville. Boy scouts and venturers participated in “Games through the Ages” while younger Webelos scouts enjoyed their own engineering themed activities.
District Program Chair Bruce Bintliff explained that the camporee was a chance for people from the former Playwicki and Pennsbury Districts, which merged in September, to get to know each other but that it was mostly a chance to have fun.
“We have something here for everybody. There are sports and games of skill. It’s a chance to introduce the boys to older games they might not know” Bintliff said as he oversaw a group of scouts competing at Giant Jenga.

The highlights of the event were Saturday night, a haunted hike in the woods lit by jack-o-lanterns carved earlier in the day by the Webelos scouts to a haunted house. Each participant brought a non-perishable food item as their tick of admission. Over 300 pounds of food was collected and will be donated to the Morrisville Presbyterian Church Food Center.
