Woman Killed Crossing Road at Woodbourne Station

The accident happened Tuesday morning at the SEPTA station off Woodbourne Road in Middletown Township.

A Newtown woman was the victim in a Tuesday morning accident at the Woodbourne train station, Middletown Township Police said.

Joan Schaffer, 61, was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing the road at the station just after 6:30 a.m. The striking vehicle remained at the scene and the driver is cooperating with officials, Middletown Township Police said.

Schaffer was transported to St. Mary Medical Center, where she died.

She was killed while crossing the road in the crosswalk by the train tracks, the Courier Times reported. She had parked in the overflow lot and was making her way to the platform, the publication said.

Woodbourne Road was closed for hours following the accident for the police investigation. SEPTA schedules were also interrupted.
