Rams Rock Wildcats in Homecoming Game
Spring-Ford showed no mercy in big victory over Owen J. Roberts.
Saturday afternoon's High School football game between Spring-Ford and Owen J. Roberts high schools was anything but boring.
The Rams and the Wildcats took to the field at Rams Stadium, and when the dust settled, the Rams completed an exciting homecoming weekend with a 42-0 victory.
This past week, Spring-Ford celebrated homecoming with spirit week, followed by the Powder Puff football game Friday night, and the homecoming dance Saturday night.

Both teams struggled in the first quarter, consistently turning the ball over on downs and gaining little advancement down the field.
"It was a tale of two halves," said Spring-Ford head coach Chad Brubaker. "I think we sputtered a little bit. Our defense played well but I was disappointed in how we came out."

"I don't know that we had an urgency in the first," Brubaker said. "And I don't know if we think that we are good, and we are not good enough just to show up."
After both teams continuously turned the ball over on down throughout the second quarter, the Rams finally started to step up their play. Quarterback J.J. Paige threw to Andrew Scanlan, who ran the ball for a 46-yard gain, giving the Rams a first down. The Rams had the full advantage, and took it, finishing up the drive with a pass to RJ Sheldon for the first touchdown of the game and the only score of the half as the Rams held a 7-0 advantage.
During halftime, the Spring-Ford marching band performed, and the homecoming court took to the field for the announcing of the King and Queen. Homecoming king John Robinson had this to say about winning. "It's an honor to be nominated and to win," Robinson said. "Being gay, it shows how far our school has come to accept everyone. It's a positive thing and shows that the community is growing in a positive way. My campaign was to hand out little rainbow ribbons and people are still wearing them, it's great." Homecoming queen Amanda Goodrich was so overwhelmed and honored that she could barely speak. "It was such an honor to be nominated and to be nominated with everyone else was just great," Goodrich said. "I think we all deserve to win and it's just amazing that I won and it was an awesome experience."
When the players took to the field in the start of the third quarter, fans saw a whole new side of the Spring-Ford Rams. Paige threw the ball to Scanlan again, who made the catch in the Rams end zone for the second touchdown of the game. The extra point, kicked by O'Hara, was good. Everytime the Wildcats had the ball, the Rams made it so difficult for them to advance up the field, that the Wildcats rarely saw their side of the end zone. So much, in fact, that Ryan Conway intercepted the ball and ran for the Rams third touchdown of the game. The score was now 21-0 in favor of the Rams.
At the beginning of the fourth, the Rams still had control of the ball and Paige completed a pass to Conway for the fourth touchdown of the game. The final two touchdowns were scored by Page and Kyle Hoffner, respectively. O'Hara kicked and made every extra point in the game, and the Rams played well in the victory.
Despite their win, Brubaker still had some reservations about the team and where they will go from here.
"We have to come out and play football right from the start," Brubaker said. "We need to play with some intensity."
