Spring-Ford 6th Grader Wins PA 'Protect Our Watersheds' Contest
Spring-Ford students took first and third in the 'Protect Our Watersheds' contest.

ROYERSFORD, PA — A Spring-Ford sixth grader has won a contest challenging students to create a piece of art that fulfills the "Protect Our Watersheds" theme.
Emma Moritz took first place in the Eastern Pennsylvania division of the competition, while fellow sixth grader Kenna Mueller took third place.
"The creativity we see from the children and their messages expressing the need to preserve our water sources is inspiring," said Jeffrey McIntyre, the president of Pennsylvania American Water, which sponsors the contest. "The environmental education incorporated into this contest helps them understand why we need to protect water resources.”

All contest entries must be accompanied with a short description of how watershed protection is personally important to them.
The grand prize was won by Indiana County sixth grader Henry Rummel for work that shows how “keeping rivers and lakes clean is critical, because they are our drinking water.” His artwork will be featured on seed-filled "bloomer" cards and distributed across the state by Pennsylvania American Water, according to organizers.
