'Truly Amazing' Victim Says Of Support Following Royersford Fire

"Words cannot accurately describe it," one fire victim said of their appreciation for the Royersford area's generosity.

ROYERSFORD, PA — An enormous upwelling of support for the victims of the devastating Royersford fire has officials and residents alike extending their thankfulness to the community at large.

Mayor Alex Metricarti shared last week that gift cards were the best way to support the victims, after six homes were completely destroyed last Wednesday.

"Our town continues to amaze us with the outpouring of support for the families affected in the fire that burned 6 homes on 2nd Ave from this week," the Royersford Borough of Emergency Management shared. "It has been a steady stream ALL day of folks dropping off gift cards to Borough Hall."

Gift cards can be dropped off at Borough Hall on 300 Main Street. You can either hand them directly to the office team inside, or you can put the cards in the mailbox in the vestibule.
The vestibule is open 24 hours a day.

One of the victims shared their appreciation with the borough.

"I just want to say how grateful I am for the support we all have received from the community. It has truly been amazing to see all the love from everyone. I just wanted to express my appreciation for the team at the borough. And all the churches that have organized and distributed the support have also been so amazing. Please extend my gratitude to everyone involved, it has meant so much to me that words can not accurately describe it. So please know your support and donations are very much appreciated!"

The Royersford Emergency Management Team met with Project Outreach and the Red Cross, which have put together temporary shelter for the six families whose homes were destroyed on Wednesday. They say the best way for the public to help the victims is to donate gift cards.

"Gift cards to Wawa, Target, Giant, Kohl’s, Walmart, and generic Visa or MasterCards are what these families could use right now," Mayor Alex Metricarti said Thursday.

While no people were injured in the fire, multiple pets were killed. Officials are continuing to investigate and no public statement on the cause had been released as of Monday.

Because the temporary housing for the victims is very small, they do not have space for many physical goods, so they are not asking for donations of that sort.

The massive blaze took 3.5 hours to completely extinguish Wednesday night, with high winds and below freezing temperatures making it extremely challenging for first responders. Firefighters from throughout the region assisted local authorities.
