Bryn Athyn College holds Sophomore Career Day
January 19 event for 2nd-year students featured alumni career reps, faculty advisors, MLKJr service project and Bergen Junge for keynote.
To engage college students at that critical time when they are declaring majors and setting career paths for a fulfilling life after graduation, Bryn Athyn College hosted its second annual Sophomore Day on Tuesday, January 19.
Sophomores at the small liberal arts school in eastern Montgomery County were provided with opportunities to talk to educators, alumni and various professionals about career choices, job markets and the college majors that would lead them to the career paths that interested them.
“Nationally as well as here at Bryn Athyn College, administrations have found that many students in their sophomore year feel a bit lost regarding their ongoing college plans and the jobs these will lead to,” says Laura C. Nash, Director of Internship and Career Planning and one of those responsible for this year’s Sophomore Day.

“In response to our sophomores’ wishes for programs and events to support them during this often unsettled year, we developed a day of activities that are informative as well as fun.”
The students had ample opportunities to mingle with faculty and alumni and socialize with their classmates. A buffet dinner featured a casual but inspiring and entertaining address by Bergen Junge, newly named Director of Business Program Development and a former IT professional with three decades’ experience in business.

The students also helped pack breakfast bags for Aid for Friends—a nonprofit that provides assistance for homebound seniors—for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
Sophomore Day for the next academic year will be held in the fall, Nash reports, to give students information needed to weigh their options prior to declaring their majors.
