Camp's Complete Game, Leonard's RBIs Lead Huntingdon Valley

The HV American Legion team got a masterful performance on the mound and a couple of clutch hits to come up with a 2-0 win over Cedarbrook on Thursday night.

Huntingdon Valley pitcher Brian Camp struck out nine batters in a complete-game effort to lead his team to a 2-0 win over Cedarbrook on Thursday night.

The HV Legion team bookended its scoring with Bobby Leonard driving in both runs - one run in the first and one in the seventh - to come up with its third win in its last five games.

Leading 1-0 late in the game, Leonard laid down a squeeze bunt to score Jared Licht to add a huge insurance run.

"In these type games you need to make the most of your opportunities," HV coach Evan Horn said. "We pushed both runs across with one out and runners at third base, Bobby (Leonard) laid down a great bunt and Jared (Licht) read the play perfect."

Lou Palmer and Jesse Goldstein came through with base hits in the first inning to set up the RBI opportunity for Leonard in the opening frame.

Tim Quigg went 3-for-4, but the rest of the Cedarbrook team couldn’t come up with a way to put the ball in play against Camp.

"Brian is a type of pitcher that wants the ball and won't quit until the final out," Horn said. "He always gives me a great effort. We are talking about a pitcher that has started eight games this season and has ended eight games this season; that's right, eight complete games."

Camp came out in the final inning and worked out of a first-and-second jam to close out the win for HV.

"We are sitting at 8-11 for the season with seven one-run losses, we could very well be sitting in the middle of the playoff race but we didn’t really learn how to win until now,” Horn said

“I really wish we could start the season over" Horn added. "I am losing a few players this season that I really wish could have played another year under me but we cant change birthdays so we must build for the future and that will be a positive for the Huntingdon Valley baseball team"

HV closes out the season this weekend with two home games, Friday and Sunday night.
