12 Hospitalized After Morning Crash On Route 422

The accident that shut down Route 422 on Monday morning sent 12 patients to the hospital, authorities said.

OAKS, PA — The accident that shut down Route 422 in Oaks on Monday morning sent 12 victims to the hospital, authorities said.

The incident occurred just after 5:30 a.m. near the St. Gabriel's curve. A large passenger van lost control and flipped over, landing on its side.

One victim inside the van was trapped, and emergency crews rushed to the scene. The victim was quickly freed as the roof of the van was cut off, authorities said.

A total of 7 EMS units from both Montgomery and Chester counties then transported the 12 victims to the hospital.

It's not yet clear what caused the van to crash. The condition of the injured individuals has not yet been released.

"This was a very hectic call, that was handled exceptionally well due to the professionalism of all agencies involved," the Lower Providence Fire Department said in a statement addressing the incident.

The crash shut down the eastbound lanes of Route 422 for more than two hours. Things were opened up again by around 7:50 a.m.

Lower Providence Fire was joined by West End EMS, Black Rock Fire, Lafayette EMS, Plymouth EMS, King of Prussia Fire, Lower Providence EMS, and additional fire police units and officers on the scene.
