Lower Providence House Fire Not Suspicious, Officials Say

The cause of the blaze is still unknown, however.

A house fire in Lower Providence that occurred Sunday afternoon has been ruled not suspicious, according to Lower Providence Fire Marshal Charles DeFrangesco.

The fire was determined to have started in the third floor attic near the chimney, Lower Providence officials said.

While the fire is not suspicious, the cause is still unknown, according to township officials.

The Montgomery County Detective’s Fire/Arson Unit, Lower Providence Volunteer Fire Company and the Lower Providence Township Codes Department all contributed to the fire investigation.

The fire broke out Sunday afternoon on Level Road and a passing motorist alerted the residents to the fire, allowing them and several pets to escape the house safely.

The residents were able to safely get several dogs and other pets from the home before the blaze caused extensive damage to the home.

This property also houses a business, K-9 Design and Pet Paradise, which was not directly affected by the fire and remains open for business, officials said.

It took over an hour and half to bring the fire under control, township officials said.

Two fire fighters were temporarily confined to the third floor when a stairwell they had just climbed was breached and assisting fire fighters were quickly able to help them to safety, officials said.

No one was injured in the fire.

The home was heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water.

It was deemed unsafe and posted accordingly by the Township’s Building Code Official.

The occupants were able to stay at another residence on the property.

Responding fire companies included Lower Providence, Collegeville, Skippack, Jefferson, Trappe, Black Rock, Norristown, Norriton, and King of Prussia, the township said.

EMS units from Lower Providence and Goodwill of Royersford also responded, according to the township.
