LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — Local leaders say children were "deliberately traumatized" and a woman was injured in the ICE operation in Lower Providence on Monday morning that resulted in the detention of one man.

State Rep. Joe Webster was present on the scene with what he called "trained observers" and local police. He said that ICE did not have a warrant when they first arrived at the home on North Barry Avenue and Ridge Pike in the Trooper section at around 7:30 a.m.

Webster said that agents then "provoked" the man they were after while school buses and children were in the vicinity. Details on that incident remain unclear.

The agents then left, obtained a warrant, and returned later. When they returned, they smashed down the front door and injured a woman before the arresting the man they were after, Webster said.

"Children were unable to attend school and they may have been deliberately traumatized," Webster said. "Family members were subjected to an invasion of privacy and damage was done to their home. ICE created a nightmarish, chaotic spectacle..."

Webster said he and the observers remained on scene throughout the morning to ensure that the warrant was obtained and that all constitutional rights were respected.

He added that the ICE agents "did not present as professional law enforcement officers by their appearance or demeanor," noting that they wore torn clothing, had non-matching military vests, and all but one of them were masked.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has not commented on the raid.

"This is the United States of America. People come to our shores, for the land of opportunity and justice," Webster added. "For the vision of who we can be, together. For the protections that our Constitution demands, for all of us. And one family in Lower Providence Township most definitely does not see our nation that way today."

Several local residents helped repair the door of the home and provide food and supplies to the family. Protesters gathered at the site in the afternoon and confronted the ICE agents, though no further injuries were reported.
