Bracero gets life in prison for fatal stabbing (timesleader.com) — A Wilkes-Barre man has been sentenced at the Luzerne County Courthouse to life in prison without parole for the fatal stabbing of Scott Edward Knox after a drug deal dispute. Testimony detailed how Knox was attacked near downtown Wilkes-Barre, remembered by family as a loving son and godfather, while several co-defendants still face sentencing or trial in Luzerne County courts.
3. Luzerne County hires specialist to find unpaid hotel taxes (standardspeaker.com) — Luzerne County is hiring tax collection firm eCollect+ to track down lodging businesses that may be skipping the county's 5% hotel room tax, with payment only if new revenue is found. Most of that money supports Mohegan Arena and Visit Luzerne County, so any additional collections could boost local tourism marketing and arena projects without raising the tax rate.
4. With ten libraries, daily item delivery, job resources, classes, and local history help at the Osterhout in Wilkes‑Barre, a single card opens countywide access to books, streaming, and programs for all ages.
5. Residents show up to oppose industrialization (2822news.com) — Hundreds of Bear Creek Township residents packed a Luzerne County meeting to oppose expanding the industrial zone from 66 to about 534 acres near their homes, largely over concerns about potential data centers. Township supervisors now say they are not considering the expansion, but will still formally vote on the proposal Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Bear Creek Township Fire Company.
