"The vehicle that tried to get around the railroad gates last month completely destroyed one of the crossing arm poles on the south side of the roadway," police said. "It will have to be entirely rebuilt."

Detour signs and concrete barriers will be in place to prevent traffic from passing the rail crossing on Union Avenue.

Local businesses can still be accessed, however the public cannot cross the tracks to get to them.

A northbound detour route sends traffic west on Lincoln Avenue in Yeadon to Lansdowne Avenue through to Lansdowne Avenue and then onto eastbound Baltimore Avenue to Union Avenue.

Drivers looking to go south on Union should use Lansdowne Avenue to Lincoln Avenue.

Drivers are urged not to use other side streets in Yeadon and Lansdowne as they are not equipped to handle large amounts of traffic, police said.

Traffic delays and increased volume along the detour route are expected.

Major arteries on Lansdowne and Baltimore avenues through the middle of Lansdowne are also expected to see impacts.
