Delco Christian Survives Scare From New Hope Solebury To Remain Undefeated
The Knights trailed by 10 late in the third quarter, but brought themselves back to eventually win the game on Oct. 22 .
NEWTOWN SQUARE–There held this underlying feeling, just when the game was beginning to fall from ’s grasp, just when it appeared they would stumble for the first time this year, that it wasn’t going to happen. That the path the Knights were taking was about to be reserved, that all the sour things happening Saturday night would somehow, someway turn around.
With 4:38 left in the third quarter, Delco Christian trailed by 10 points—and the Knights had little going for themselves. Then it happened. A third-and-five play produced 11 yards. A penalty extended the drive further—and just like that, a long touchdown run. The drive sparked 21-unanswered points and a 27-17 Delco Christian victory Saturday night over New Hope Solebury.
The victory gives the Knights a pristine 7-0 record and still number-one in the PIAA District 1 Class A standings, while New Hope Solebury fell to 3-4.

wasn’t about to take any more punches. The Delco
Christian senior quarterback wasn’t about his team sulk after New Hope Solebury tailback Joe Dwight haul in a 72-yard touchdown pass.
“I was on the sideline telling everyone not to give up, and I knew we would come back,” Hirshman said. “I think it was the hard work this off-season that’s helped us. This team is in great shape. And I think we eventually wore them down. This was a big win for us. This, I think, made us realize we are beatable. I think it made us realize we have to work harder.”
Delco Christian then shut down the Lions’ offense throughout much of the second half. Take away the Dwight catch and the Knights clamped down hard on the New Hope Solebury offense in the second half.
“These guys realize that they’re on the verge of something special, and this team plays for each other,” Knights’ coach Jim Favino said. “Each guy doesn’t want let the other guy down.”
