The planting event is jointly sponsored by the Newtown Township Environmental Advisory Council (EAC), Newtown Square in Bloom and Newtown Township Parks and Recreation Committee.

The soil and mulch are being subsidized by Mostardi’s Nursery of Newtown Square.

Seventh and eighth grade students from St. Anastasia School and members of several local organizations will be participating.

As part of Newtown Square’s designation as both a Tree City USA and as an Audubon PA Bird Town, planting these new trees will help create a healthier, more sustainable and beautiful community while expanding shelter for birds.

Attendees are asked to bring gardening work gloves and wear sturdy shoes or boots. The holes for the trees will already be dug courtesy of Newtown Township Public Works.

Snacks and water will be provided but attendees should bring their own reusable water bottles. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Parking is available in the Brookside Park lot.

The trees were purchased through TreeVitalize, a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources program to increase tree canopy.

TreeVitalize is coordinated by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) to help achieve its goal to plant one million trees throughout 13 counties in southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
