Delco Children Hospitalized After Eating Marijuana Edibles: Police

"There are predators out there who are packaging drugs in a way that targets unknowing children," one school official said.

CHESTER, PA — Several students at a Delaware County elementary school were hospitalized this week after ingesting possible cannabis edibles.

Chester City Police said officers were called to the Chester Community Charter School at about noon Wednesday for a report of several students who may have eaten THC-infused foods.

The children were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, police said.

The school issued a letter to parents, saying the students were stable and were being monitored by medical professionals.

Chester Community Charter School CEO David Clark Jr. warned parents of the dangers of "harmful illegal substances that appear to be normal candy."

"There are predators out there who are packaging drugs in a way that targets unknowing children," he said. "This incident should serve as an important reminder to all parents to be on the lookout for products disguising harmful substances. Parental vigilance is the first step in the protection of our children."

Action News reports charges are pending against a woman in connection with the incident, and Clark said the school will coordinate with police for a thorough investigation.

"I would also like to commend our staff and our Resource Officer for a quick reaction and caring response," Clark said.
