Scanlon Wins Democratic Nomination In 5th Congressional District
Mary Gay Scanlon emerged the winner in a field of 10 Democrats to face off against sole Republican Pearl Kim in the 5th District race

11 p.m. update: Mary Gay Scanlon has won the Democratic nomination to take vie for the newly-redrawn 5th Congressional District in Pennsylvania come November.
Scanlon will run against Republican Pearl Kim, ran uncontested in the primary.
Scanlon secured the nomination with 15,612 votes (28.39 percent) with 94 percent of districts reporting.

Scanlon, a Swarthmore resident, has worked for the Education Law Center of Pennsylvania, served as a board member of the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, and served as the national Pro Bono Counsel at Ballard Spahr.
10:45 p.m.: Scanlon has nearly secured the nomination with 15,607 votes (28.4 percent).

Lazer and Lunkenheimer are neck-in-neck with 8,632 votes (15.7 percent) and 8,207 votes (15 percent), respectfully.
10:20 p.m. update: Scanlon leads the pack with 10,155 votes ( 26.43 percent)
Lazer is close behind with 7,579 votes (19.7 percent).
Seventy-one percent of votes are in as of 10:20 p.m.
Ten Democrats are vying to be their party's nominee come November for the recently redistricted and vacated 5th Congressional District seat.
Tuesday's primary has a large field of Dems running to take Republican Pat Meehan's former seat. Only one Republican is looking to take the seat.

- Margo Davidson
- Thaddeus Kirkland
- Richard Lazer
- Lindy Li
- Ashley Lunkenheimer
- Mary Gay Scanlon
- Molly Sheehan
- Greg Vitali
- Theresa Wright
Pearl Kim is the sole Republican looking to take the seat.

Once the 7th Congressional District, the 5th District covers most of Delaware County, and a small portion of Lower Merion Township.
Meehan resigned his seat (then 7th District) in late April following accusations that he used taxpayer funds to settle a sexual misconduct allegation.
