Jail Time For Delco Daycare Worker Who Pushed Child

In June, Sarah A. Gable pleaded guilty to pushing a 4-year-old child down a small fight of stairs in March.

The woman who was caught on camera pushing a child down a small flight of stairs at a Delaware County daycare facility is heading to jail after pleading guilty to charges of simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child in June.

Sarah A. Gable, 53, of Folcroft, was sentenced in a Delaware County court Wednesday, Aug. 16 to three months jail time, according to court records. Gable was also ordered to serve three months of electronic home monitoring and a three-year probation, court records show.

Gable was caught on camera pushing a 4-year-old child down a small flight of stairs the afternoon of Friday, March 3 at Childcare of the Future in Clifton Heights.

The incident occurred just about half an hour after a security camera was installed in the location where she allegedly pushed the child.

After the incident, Gable looked directly into the security camera.

Child Care of the Future manager Shawayne Tavares said she witnessed the entire incident unfold as it happened via the security camera.

"I was so upset. I had tears in my eyes," Tavares said. "(Gable) picked up the shoe and tried to come to the end of the stairs like, 'Oh,it was her shoe' that caused her to fall."

The 4-year-old child suffered a minor knee injury, but her attorney said the child is dealing with trauma-related issues since the incident.

"She is terrified of even the most common things such as stairs, such as being entrusted with others," attorney Brian Fritz said.

Upper Darby Police said the incident was "a truly horrible act."
