16 Vehicles Damaged By Metal On I-78 In Hunterdon County: NJ State Police
A truck dumped metal debris on the roadway, causing traffic backups Monday morning and damaging 16 cars, NJ State Police said.

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ — Multiple cars on I-78 were damaged after a truck transporting metal dumped debris on the roadway in Hunterdon County. According to NJ State Police, the incident was reported around 5:15 a.m. at milepost 18.8 on the eastbound lanes for the report of multiple vehicles with damage due to debris in the roadway.
A total of 16 cars were damaged; one vehicle suffered a broken axle and the remaining had flat tires, police said. Police are now looking for the driver of that truck.
"The driver of the truck transporting the metal did not stick around to see of anyone was seriously hurt, unless they didn't realize what happened. So, we’d like to have a word with him or her either way," according to information from NJ State Police.

The debris also caused partial lane closures, resulting in traffic congestion in the area as the metal was removed from the road and motorists and road service crews changed flat tires.
No injuries were reported.

Troopers are asking anyone with information to contact Perryville Station at 908-730-7042. Anonymous tips are welcome. No suspect vehicle description was available.
