The Friends of the Free Library of New Hope & Solebury will present “The Doll That Brought Us Home: A True Story of Family, Memory & Discovery” at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at the Free Library of New Hope & Solebury, 93 W. Ferry St., New Hope. The program features writer, storyteller, and public speaker Julie Meyers, whose remarkable family story began with a first‑grade assignment and a paper doll named Flat Stanley.
Meyers traces how her daughter’s childhood project opened an unexpected path into their family’s past, leading her to German archivists and citizens who helped recover history long thought lost. Through photographs, records, and personal accounts, Meyers discovered stories shaped by silence, trauma, and resilience. Her presentation explores the enduring impact of ordinary people choosing to help.
Her talks guide audiences through a shared emotional journey, moving between humor, grief, discovery, and the profound consequences of kindness. Meyers encourages listeners to consider their own family stories.
