The inaugural Bucks County Book Festival will be held Oct. 13 and 14 in Doylestown.

The inaugural Bucks County Book Festival will be held Oct. 13 and 14 in Doylestown, and organizers are beginning to reveal some details about the event. So far, 26 authors and illustrators are participating, with organizers expecting more than 40 once the schedule is complete.

Participating authors include a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and a former New York Times foreign correspondent, a creative director at Penguin Random House, and a writer whose work was named one of National Public Radio’s Best Books of 2017. Colleen Dunn, festival co-chair, said the authors represent a "diverse array of topics and genres in both fiction and nonfiction" for readers of all ages.

“We continue to work with professional publishing houses in New York City and Philadelphia and anticipate hosting more than 40 authors during the two-day festival,” according to the festival's author liaison, Glenda Childs.

The Bucks County Book Festival kicks-off Saturday morning, Oct. 13, when children and their parents are invited to the Fire House on Shewell Avenue in Doylestown to meet notable children’s authors and illustrators. At the same time, aspiring writers can attend a professionally taught seminar at the James-Lorah Memorial Home on Main Street.

Saturday night's festivities include the first of three keynote presentations given by nationally-known authors. Later that same evening, other writers will appear at Doylestown area bars and coffee shops for a light-hearted "Lit Crawl."

On Sunday afternoon, there will be activities for adults and teens under tents at the Hamilton Street parking lot between State and Oakland streets in Doylestown. Several panel discussions with professionally-published authors from a variety of genres and an on-site keynote author are planned.

There will also be a vendor area where self-published authors, professional literary groups, area non-profits, and others can connect with visitors.

The final keynote author will speak early Sunday evening. That event alone is expected to draw more than 600 people, organizers said.

The festival is organized through a partnership with Discover Doylestown.
