The chamber hopes to attract 1,000 to 3,000 people and raise at least $100,000 for victims. So far, it has raised about $50,000 through its nonprofit arm, Delaware Rivertowns Charities. Donations to the group can be made by mailing a check to P.O. Box 210, Lambertville, NJ 08530.
“We are trying to fill in the gaps for what insurance won’t cover,” said Cindy Kunnas, executive director of the chamber. “They can provide the essentials, but what about the person who didn’t have comprehensive coverage for their car because they couldn’t afford it? These are local bands raising funds for their neighbors.”

For victims:Here’s how New Jersey businesses can apply for Ida disaster funds
Performers include Darius de Haas, who sings the part of Shy Baldwin on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”; The Shackers, which play a blend of rock, soul, reggae and punk; and Clouds in My Coffee, a tribute band which plays hits by legends such as James Taylor, The Beatles and Aretha Franklin.
Festival-goers are encouraged to bring picnics, but food will be available as well. The American Legion, whose headquarters were destroyed, will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers to help fund their recovery, and Owowcow, which has yet to re-open their Lambertville location due to flood damage, will be selling their ice cream.
Shad Fest was originally scheduled for Oct. 9 and 10, but it was canceled after Ida. However, the idea of a benefit concert took hold as donated resources became available. Mercer County offered a stage; $50,000 in sponsorships were donated; the Hunterdon County Fairgrounds were available for the weekend and waived fees; and Triumph Brewing Company provided music equipment.

“We did everything we could to keep overhead as low as possible,” said Kunnas. “We have seen a lot of people help each other and a lot of volunteers. It’s been sad, but uplifting at the same time.”
Go: Oct. 9 and 10, Hunterdon County Fairgrounds, 1207 Route 179, Lambertville. Tickets are $50 at the door or $35 in advance and can be purchased at lambertvillechamber.com/helping-hands/.
