Route 29 leading in and out of Lambertville, has long been plagued with motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents. Having two lanes in each direction enabled speeding and reckless driving. In 2018 there were 520 traffic summonses issued and another 274 this year in 2019.
Residents of Lambertville have been asking for a safer alternative for over 20 years, especially those who live along this dangerous stretch. Their request had gone unheeded.
When now Mayor Julia Fahl campaigned, she promised to address this persistent problem in her first term. Not only did she accomplish this in her first term, but in her first year as Lambertville’s new Mayor.

The project reduced each direction to one lane and added 50 additional parking spots for businesses and residents who previously were parking their vehicles on the sidewalk! A one half mile stretch was re-paved and stripped directing the flow of traffic. There are now 2 designated lanes available for safe U-turns.
Department of Transportation Chief of Staff, Jay Jimenez said there were proposals up to 7 million dollars for this project which was completed for $329,000 in an economical way to save tax payer money. He thanked the Department of Traffic and Engineering for their planning.
Mayor Fahl said when she campaigned “the safety of our roads was on everyone’s mind.” She also said that Lambertville is a “drive to town, not a drive through town.” With the completion of the Route 29 Improvement Project, Lambertville’s residents and visitors will now be safer.
