POINT PLEASANT, PA — The Point Pleasant Volunteer Fire Company will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Saturday and it's inviting the public to join in the fun.

From 12 to 4 p.m., the firefighters will offer complimentary food from Blooming Glen Catering, live demonstrations, firehouse tours, a smoke trailer, bounce houses, fire truck rides, water rocket contests between neighboring fire companies, anniversary t-shirt sales, free goodie bags for the kids, and lots more.

According to Chief Engineer Joe Cummings, at 1:30 p.m. Temple University’s MedEvac helicopter is scheduled to land. The public will then get a chance to take a look inside and talk with the crew.

The public will also have a chance to meet the volunteers who keep the community safe, including 69-year member Rick Hadland, one of the oldest active firefighters in Bucks County. He joined the station in February 1955 and responded to the 1955 flood that August.

“Everybody is invited to come out to the fire station and celebrate the organization that has kept them safe for the past 100 years,” said Cummings. “It’s going to be a learning experience for all ages. We’ll be teaching kids about fire safety and maybe get them interested in becoming a firefighter in the future.”

The all-volunteer Point Pleasant Fire Company covers parts of Plumstead, Tinicum, and Solebury townships, including a large swath of the Delaware River, Lake Nockamixon, and High Rocks at Ralph Stover Park.

This has been a busy anniversary year for the firefighters who have renovated its station and museum, opened a new burn building where firefighters can train in actual fire conditions, and created a new patio area around the station's flagpole to honor members past and present.

Saturday's event is free and open to the public. The fire station is located at 6500 Point Pleasant Pike in the village of Point Pleasant.
