On Friday, Dec. 15, Doylestown native Robert Meier died after struggling with addiction for many years, his mother said on a GoFundMe campaign page seeking assistance with services. He was 33.

Meier had lived for the last year in Michigan after joining the carnival, but began to struggle when the season ended, his mother wrote. "We are devastated and heartbroken. He had a great sense of humor," she said.

Meier had two young children. The family is trying to raise $5,000 to help pay for services. "The reason the cost is so high is because we have to have him transported from Michigan to Pennsylvania and that adds a lot to the total cost," she said.

Meier's services are planned for Dec. 23.
