4 Children Hit By Car At Washington Crossing Tree Lighting

Breaking: Four children were hit by a car at a tree lighting event in Washington Crossing on Friday. Three remain hospitalized at CHOP.

WASHINGTON CROSSING, PA — Four children were hit by a car at the annual Christmas Tree lighting event in Washington Crossing on Friday evening, police confirmed.

The children were hit on River Road. All were seriously injured but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Upper Makefield Police said. Three of the children are currently at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and one was released late last night from St. Mary Medical Center, according to police.

The driver stopped immediately and was not impaired "in any fashion," police said. The driver, who has not been identified, is fully cooperating with police.

The incident remains under investigation.

"We ask that you remain patient as the investigation unfolds and please keep all those involved in your thoughts and prayers as those families try to deal with this tragic accident during the holiday season," police said.

The names and ages of the injured children were not released.

Police said many doctors and nurses at the scene immediately rendered aid to the injured children.

"We cannot fully express our gratitude for all your help," police said in a statement.
