Another Major Department Store Closing Multiple PA Locations

Add JCPenney to the list of department stores shuttering locations in Pennsylvania.

The chain announced Friday that seven locations in Pennsylvania are among the 138 JCPenney stores slated to close nationwide. Locations that will close include stores at Philadelphia Mills, the King of Prussia Mall and the Willow Grove Mall, among others.

The retailer is not the first to announce closures of large department stores this year. Kmart, Sears and Macy's last month announced they were closing multiple stores in Pennsylvania.

Kmart will close six Pennsylvania stores. Sears will shutter three. Macy's is closing six stores, including locations in Bucks and Montgomery counties. All told, 22 major department stores in Pennsylvania will be closed by year's end.

JCPenney says it will be closing the stores to better compete in a changing marketplace where online shopping has become common.

Disappointing holiday sales were reported at all department stores nationwide, as well as declines in stock prices, just before the closures were announced.

Sears said many of the locations slated to close have "struggled with their financial performance for years and we have kept them open to maintain local jobs and in the hopes that they would turn around."

Here are the JCPenney stores in Pennsylvania closing:

• Columbia Mall, Bloomsburg
• Clearfield Mall, Clearfield
• King of Prussia Mall, King of Prussia
• Philadelphia Mills, Philadelphia
• Bradford Towne Centre, Towanda
• Lycoming Mall, Pennsdale
• Willow Grove Park, Willow Grove

Here are the Kmart stores in Pennsylvania closing:

• 5820 Shaffer Road, Dubois
• 1320 E Grandview Blvd., Erie
• 1890 Fruitville Pike, Lancaster
• 5600 Carlisle Pike US 11, Mechanicsburg
• 120 Mall Blvd., Monroeville
• 100 Cross Roads Plaza, Mt. Pleasant

Here are the Sears stores in Pennsylvania closing:

• 1 Susquehanna Valley Mall Dr., Sellinsgrove
• 1500 Mall Run Road, Uniontown
• 3595 Capital City Mall, Camp Hill

Here are the Macy's stores in Pennsylvania closing:

• Neshaminy, Bensalem
• Shenango Valley, Hermitage
• Beaver Valley, Monaca
• Lycoming, Muncy
• Plymouth Meeting
• Washington Crown Center
