Avoiding Eminent Domain, Borough Makes Deal With Property Owners
Officials in Newtown Borough have made a deal with the owners of a historic Court Street property.

NEWTOWN, PA — Officials in Newtown Borough have made a deal with the owners of a historic Court Street property.
The borough will purchase a 0.15-acre lot behind the Bird in Hand for $410,000 for historic preservation and open space purposes, the Newtown Advance reported. The Jan. 7 vote to acquire the property was unanimous.
In November, borough officials indicated they would do whatever possible to acquire the land, even if it meant using eminent domain.

The property is located at 112 Court Street. Last year, it had been listed for sale. The asking price was $425,000.
