Bensalem Man to Be Charged in Accident That Killed Teen Boarding Bus

Michael Shelly, 18, of Bensalem is facing homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with the Dec. 17 accident.

An 18-year-old Bensalem man has been charged with homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter in connection with a fatal accident that killed a 16-year-old girl who was boarding a school bus in Bensalem last month.

Michael Shelly, 18, of Bensalem was driving the Ford Bronco that hit Minete Zeka on Dec. 17 as she attempted to board her bus. He is charged with the following: homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another Person, overtaking school bus and related offenses, Bensalem police said.

Zeka was crossing Bensalem Boulevard in the crosswalk to get on her school bus around 6:40 a.m., police said. The Bensalem Township School District bus was stopped with its stop arm extended and red signals activated, police said.

Shelly is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon by District Justice Brown in Bensalem.

After being hit, Zeka was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
