Bernie Sauer Announces Bid For Newtown Borough Mayor

Bernie Sauer is seeking the Republican nomination for Newtown Borough Mayor, he announced Tuesday.

Newtown Borough resident Bernie Sauer has announced he's running for mayor.

Sauer, in a statement released Tuesday, said he was motivated to seek the Republican nomination for mayor after watching as Newtown Borough continued to be one of just two municipalities in Bucks County that did not carry the drug Narcan.

Sauer joined with two other local residents to start the group “Newtown Area Residents Can Save Lives” to push Newtown’s elected and police officials to use the drug, which reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. Shortly after the group was established and drew strong community support through Facebook, the borough decided to carry the drug.

“The people of Newtown deserve a strong new voice who is committed to putting their interests first at all times and making sure we govern in the bright light of day. Whether it is making sure our police are using Narcan, or letting residents know about issues like the paid parking plan, I will always listen to – and speak up for – all residents,” Sauer said.

Sauer is a graduate of Bishop Egan High School and attended Bucks County Community College and Temple University.
