Eclipse Viewing Party At The Borscht Belt In Newtown
The public is invited to stop by the deli for a Solar Eclipse Watch Party as the moon passes in front of the sun.
NEWTOWN, PA — To celebrate Monday's partial eclipse of the sun, the Borscht Belt is hosting a community viewing party from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Village at Newtown South.
The public is invited to stop by the deli on South Eagle Road to experience the celestial event on what is expected to be a pleasant, sunny day with temperatures in the mid-60s.
Throughout the "Great North American Eclipse," the deli is planning special eclipse-themed music - think "Here Comes the Sun," "Total Eclipse of the Heart," and "Bad Moon Rising" - along with giveaways, store specials, and Borscht Belt-branded eclipse viewing glasses.

"We're just doing what we always do - bringing the community together," said deli co-owner Mike Dalewitz. "What better way to come together than in celebration of an amazing celestial event that we can experience together."
In the Newtown area, the partial eclipse will begin at 2:08 p.m., reaching its maximum at 3:24 p.m. when 89.5 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon. The eclipse will conclude at 4:35 p.m.

To view a total eclipse, you'll have to travel northeast to Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire or New York or head west to northwestern Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas.
Special eclipse glasses will be required to view the natural phenomenon, which won't happen again for another 54 years.
The deli has rebranded Monday, April 8 as "Monday Funday" in Newtown in celebration of the celestial happening.
"Bring your kids, pick up a pair of our safety glasses, enjoy the music, do some dancing, enjoy some food because this isn't going to happen again until May 11, 2078," said Dalewitz.
