Reported Sighting of Escaped Prisoners in Pa. Unfounded

Authorities investigated a possible sighting of the two convicts Thursday morning at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.

It was a false alarm.

Authorities say the sighting of two New York escaped prisoners that was reported Thursday morning by a Philadelphia cab driver was unfounded, 6 ABC reported.

Police made the announcement hours after a tip came in from the cab driver, who said he thought he may have transported fugitives David Sweat and Richard Matt from Broad and Vine Streets to 30th Street Station.

Earlier Thursday, authorities investigated the morning sighting of the two convicted murderers, who escaped from a maximum security prison in upstate New York last week.

Fox29 reported the tip came in from a cab driver, who told police he may have picked up two men who looked like the fugitives. Authorities say the men used power tools to cut through the prison walls then crawled through a steam pipe during their escape last week.
