NEWTOWN, PA — Commuters and motorists in the Newtown area will be impacted by the following road work and closures this week.

  • The Washington Crossing Bridge between Bucks County and Mercer County, New Jersey, is scheduled to be closed in both directions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes while the bridge is out of service. The two closest river bridges are the Scudder Falls (I-295) Toll Bridge located 2.5 miles to the south and the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge 6.9 miles to the north. The closure is needed at Washington Crossing to allow commission maintenance personnel to repaint the yellow center line on the bridge’s open-grate steel deck. The travel restriction is subject to change due to weather, emergencies, traffic, and staffing considerations.
  • In Wrightstown Township, a portion of Swamp Road between Mill Creek Road and Old Sacketts Ford Road is scheduled to be paved on Thursday, May 18, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Motorists can expect a lane closure and delays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the paving project. They are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work zone. Under these resurfacing projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surfaces and repaving the highway with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadway and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface. The resurfacing project is part of a broader operation by PennDOT to resurface more than 200 miles of state highway across the Philadelphia region.
  • Between now and the end of the year, motorists using Route 332 in Lower Makefield can expect possible travel delays as road crews construct new lanes on eastbound and westbound Route 332 between Stony Hill Road and I-295. The $5 million road construction project is part of the Prickett Preserve redevelopment project on Stony Hill Road. The project is improving the roadway to accommodate the extra traffic expected to be generated by the construction of a new Wegman's grocery store, a retail courtyard and an apartment complex on Stony Hill Road. Motorists should stay alert for work being performed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The project, awarded to James D. Morrissey, Inc., is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.
