Chick-Fil-A Looking To Expand In Newtown; No Plans To Close West Road
The fast food restaurant has filed a zoning application with the township for a 6000-square-foot location on the Newtown Bypass.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Chick-fil-A has filed a zoning application with Newtown Township to build a second restaurant in the township at the site of the former TD Bank at the Newtown Bypass, Upper Silver Lake Road and the Newtown-Yardley Road diagonally across from the site of the future Wawa.
Representatives from Chick-fil-A were scheduled to attend Tuesday night's planning commission to address its zoning application, but cancelled their appearance just hours before the meeting. There's no word on when the presentation will be rescheduled.
According to a zoning application filed with the township, the new restaurant would be built on an existing 3.21-acre corner property, with frontage on Newtown-Yardley Road and Upper Silver Lake Road, at the site of the closed TD Bank.

The fast food restaurant currently operates a restaurant on West Road at the Newtown Shopping Center, which would continue to operate if the new restaurant is approved, an official told Patch.
Under the township's zoning ordinance, the proposed restaurant and drive-thru will require several variances, including one for the inclusion of drive-thru service which is not permitted in the zoning district.

The restaurant is also seeking dimensional variances for setbacks and drive aisle width; to allow the use within 300 feet of Newtown-Yardley Road and Newtown Bypass; and to allow for additional signage on the property and a sign facing the Bypass.
Editor's Note: A prior story reported that the West Road Chick-fil-A location may close if the new one is approved. That was incorrect. Patch apologizes for the error.
