More than 500 animals, from bleating sheep and squealing pigs to mooing cows, are again filling the fairground barns with the sounds of the farm. This week's schedule is packed with shows and competitions taking place throughout the five days of the fair.
Unfortunately, due to an Avian Flu statewide caution, chickens, roosters and other fowl won't be making an appearance at this year's Grange Fair. But you can read all about their projects and see pictures of the winners inside the 4H Animals barn.
The four day of the fair brings the 4-H Cattle Show beginning at 10 a.m. in the show arena. Also on Saturday are the Hog and Lamb and Goat Auctions. And you can also check out the Llama and Alpca demonstration at 5 p.m. in the show arena followed by the Cattle Show at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday's schedule also includes a Rug Hookers Demonstration inside Building One from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; a Penn State Master Gardeners Kids Program ongoing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside Building One; and a Pet Club Puppet Show at 2 p.m. and Fuzzy Critters Storytime at 3 p.m., both in the Kids Corner.
The fair's famous chicken dinner will be served from 3 to 8 p.m. You can enjoy the farm fresh dinner either as a sit down experience or take out.
The exhibition barns are again bursting with 4-H exhibits, vegetables, floral exhibits, home products, needle craft and more. Free entertainment is ongoing throughout the fair. A vendor barn is filled with commercial exhibits to explore. And the food is plentiful from hot dogs and hamburgers to crepes, BBQ, water ice and Goodnoe ice cream.
For the kids and teens, Skelly's Amusements is back with rides and games.
Other fair favorites include the tractor parade, which will again be making its rounds on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and again on Sunday at 4 p.m.
And don't miss the competitive hot dog pig races, which are also back and squealing throughout the course of the fair.
Friday's entertainment features Ryan Coleman from 1 to 3 p.m. in the entertainment tent and the Buzzer Band from7 to 10 p.m., also in the entertainment tent.
Coleman is a country singer/songwriter from southeastern PA where he grew up on a farm, listening to and making country music since childhood. His debut single, 'That's What I Do,' hit the charts in January. Bandmates Abby Long and Austin Bright have since joined him as they write and perform all over the tri-state area.
Buzzer Band's unstoppable team of vocalists, musicians, and sound pros have ignited hundreds of events across the Delaware Valley, including past appearances at the Grange Fair. Their fusion of dance and pop hits from the 60s to the present creates an unforgettable celebration.
