Council Rock Choirs Advance To Finals In B-101 Choir Competition

The NorthVoice and the South Vocal Ensemble will compete in the finals on Thursday with a chance to win $5,000 for their schools.

NEWTOWN, PA — The excitement is building in the Council Rock School District as choirs from both high schools prepare to compete in the finals of the B101.1 Christmas Choir Competition on Thursday.

The NorthVoice Choir from Council Rock High School North and the South Vocal Ensemble from Council Rock High School South are advancing to the finals where they will compete against today's winning choir.

The NorthVoice, performing the song, “What Child Is This?” competed in the first round of the semifinals on Monday against Central Bucks South and Creative High School.

South, performing “Mambo Santa Mambo,” competed in the second round of the semifinals on Tuesday against Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School and the Moorestown Friends School.

The choirs will now be competing in the finals on Thursday against Wednesday’s semifinal winner. Competing on Wednesday are Ridley High School, Cherry Hill West High School and Springfield Township High School.

The radio station will be giving away $16,000 in prizes to area school music programs this year. First place winners in both elementary and high school divisions will have their choir's song featured on B101 throughout the holidays and the school's music program will win a cash prize of $5,000.

Plus, the choirs will be invited to perform their winning song at A Philly Pops Christmas: Spectacular Sounds of the Season.

Second place winners in each division receive a $2,000 cash prize and third place winners receive a $1,000 cash prize - all to benefit their school music programs.

NorthVoice performs a varied repertoire from Renaissance motets to vocal jazz and from classical to contemporary choral literature. It sings at a variety of events throughout the school and community. All members of NorthVoice also sing in Symphonic Choir or Chorale.

The South Vocal Ensemble is the elite choral ensemble at Council Rock High School South whose members are selected through audition. It has also been a frequent semifinalist in the competition.

Here's How The Voting Works

Nine semifinalists are selected to compete. Three schools are showcased on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (December 5, 6 and 7) with the winners of each daily competition advancing to the finals on Thursday, December 8).

The first, second and third place winners (9-12 grade division) will be announced on Friday, December 9 during the morning show with Jenn Ryan and Bill Tafrow, shortly after 7 a.m.

Voting Rules

Go to www.b101philly.com to vote for your school choir. Voters are presented with options to vote for each competing school for that given day. The voting period each day will be from the time all songs are played on B101.1 (shortly after 7 a.m.) up until 9 pm that evening. There is no limit on
how any votes you can cast.

Winners will be announced the following morning during the B101.1 Morning Show with Jenn and Bill shortly after 7 a.m.
