More than 500 animals, from bleating sheep and squealing pigs to mooing cows, are again filling the fairground barns with the sounds of the farm. This week's schedule is packed with shows and competitions taking place throughout the five days of the fair.
Unfortunately, due to an Avian Flu statewide caution, chickens, roosters and other fowl won't be making an appearance at this year's Grange Fair. But you can read all about their projects and see pictures of the winners inside the 4H Animals barn.
The third day of the fair promises to be a 'mooo'ving experience. The Bucks County Holstein Show is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the show arena. Also on Friday is the Sheep Show at 4 p.m. in the show arena. And you can also check out the reptiles during a 3 p.m. show inside the Sheep, Goat and Pig Barn.
Friday's schedule also includes Hair Ties and Bow Ties inside Building One at 11 a.m., 3 and 8 p.m.; a smocking demonstration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside Building One; and Penn State Ask A Master Gardener Booth from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. inside Building Two.
The fair's new Kids Corner will again be bustling with activity on Friday from 12 to 4 p.m. The schedule includes a Story Stroll ("Barnyard Banter") from 12 to 3 p.m.; Plant Craft at 1 p.m.; and Fuzzy Critters Storytime at 3 p.m.
The fair's famous chicken dinner will be served from 3 to 8 p.m. You can enjoy the farm fresh dinner either as a sit down experience or take out.
The exhibition barns are again bursting with 4-H exhibits, vegetables, floral exhibits, home products, needle craft and more. Free entertainment is ongoing throughout the fair. A vendor barn is filled with commercial exhibits to explore. And the food is plentiful from hot dogs and hamburgers to crepes, BBQ, water ice and Goodnoe ice cream.
For the kids and teens, Skelly's Amusements is back with rides and games.
Other fair favorites include the tractor parade, which will again be making its rounds Wednesday to Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and again on Sunday at 4 p.m.
And don't miss the competitive hot dog pig races, which are also back and squealing throughout the course of the fair.
On Thursday evening, a country western band is scheduled to entertain on the main stage from 7 to 11 p.m.
