Goodnoe Students Honored For Arbor Day Poster Designs

The Goodnoe students' posters will be displayed at Newtown's annual Arbor Day celebration, plus around local stores.

Several Goodnoe Elementary School first and fifth grade students have been honored for their submissions into Newtown’s Annual Arbor Day Poster Design Contest.

Six winning posters were selected. Those, and others, will displayed on Friday, April 22 at Brian Gregg Memorial Park during Newtown’s Arbor Day Celebration. Additionally, the winning posters will be on displayed in storefronts throughout the Newtown area, on the Council Rock School District websites and at Goodnoe Elementary School.

The contest, organized by Newtown's Arbor Day Committee, encouraged students to design a poster "illustrating the importance of trees in our world and what Arbor Day means to them."

The poster contest is and important part of the Arbor Day Celebration.

“The event is about celebrating the wonders of nature and challenging the children to become actively involved in caring for the environment," Arbor Day Committee Member, Jeanine Rambo. "In the process of creating their posters, the children are given the opportunity to express not only their knowledge and feelings about trees but also their concerns for the future of our planet. Trees and the environment are a topic that the children understand and value the importance of based on the considerable number of posters entered into this contest this year.”

The judges panel included Rotary Club Representative, Marge Torongo; landscape designer, Karen Waitkus; School Board Member, Bill Foster and Borough Council Representative, Tara Grunde-McLaughlin.

The 1st grade winners are: Gretchen Brady, Sierra Cohen and Srikshita Solipuram.

The 5th grade winners are: Nicole Eden, Christina Erckert, and Mia Brady.

The rain date for the Newtown Arbor Day Celebration is April 25.
