Groomer On the Move

From the outside, it looks like any other Winnebago (except for maybe the dogs painted on the side) but inside, Jim and Shara Connors’ camper is not your typical vacation mobile.

Instead, this pet-loving duo has set up a mobile grooming service right from the camper.  The Newtown Township couple started At Your Service Mobile Pet Grooming in May after several years of running a successful pet sitting business.

The setup makes for a convenient option for people who are pressed for time or for pets who don’t like being caged or riding in the car to the groomer.

Inside the camper, there is a large bathtub and a grooming table. There are multiple air conditioners and fans, plus two blowers (one is large, for the bigger dogs.) And Jim says he's meticulous about keeping it clean.

"I have a shop vac in here and we vacuum the whole thing afterwards," he said.

When you make an appointment with At Your Service, they simply park the camper in your driveway. They carry their own water and their own waste.

“The dogs generally like it,” Jim said. “The thing they like about it is we don’t cage them.”

The maximum time the whole process takes is about an hour and half, less for some dogs, Jim said. They do all-sized dogs; the only requirement is the pet fit in the tub.

For anxious dogs, the fact they don’t leave home helps them to be at ease, Jim said.

“The dogs seem to be more relaxed. When the dog can see his house, they are just more at ease,” he said.

Since starting the operation in May, Shara said the business has taken off fast. But she still guarantees timely appointments to any customer who calls. She said callers can usually expect to get an appointment within 24 hours.
