Inviting, Stylish And Fun: The Wycombe House Opens In Wrightstown

Its menu offers a pleasing mix of traditional tavern fare and southern-inspired main courses.

WRIGHTSTOWN, PA — After a long, long wait, The Wycombe House is officially open for business on Mill Creek Road midway between the Lingohocken Fire Station and the historic Wycombe Train Station.

After an invitation-only soft opening over the weekend, Warminster resident Jerry Driscoll, who purchased the business back in March, officially opened the doors to the restaurant on Tuesday.

“We had a great soft opening on Saturday,” wrote Driscoll on The Wycombe’s Facebook page. “We served 181 guests. There were a couple hiccups along the way, but overall it went well. A great big thank you to everyone who participated and allowed us to use you as guinea pigs to test our menu, service and drinks.”

The Wycombe House, formerly known as the Wycombe Publick House,"takes the classic bar and grill to a new height, drawing inspiration from southern cuisine and locally-sourced market-fresh ingredients," says its website. "Whether seated in the main dining room, the porch or the tavern, the energetic bar creates a buzz throughout the restaurant and sets the stage for an amazing night out."

The menu offers a pleasing mix of traditional tavern fare and southern-inspired dishes.

Tavern selections range from chicken, steak and shrimp tacos to classic cheesesteak sandwiches and five different kinds of burgers, including the Wycombe Burger, an eight ounce chuck burger with bacon, mushrooms, Swiss and Provolone cheese topped with truffle mayo, lettuce, tomato and onions and served with truffle fries.

The Wycombe's dinner menu features southern-influenced American cooking including its signature steak smothered in pork chops and its traditional chicken and waffles dish with a bourbon maple syrup.

Other dishes include chicken fried steak, a New Orleans gumbo, bacon and bourbon stuffed chicken breast, shrimp and scallop scampi, enchiladas, blackened red fish, shrimp and grits, Filet Mignon and Chicken Caprese.

Dinners are complemented with tasty cornbread fingers and a complementary carafe filled with ice cold water.

The menu also offers tasty appetizers to start your meal (cornbread skillet, calamari, burger sliders, buffalo wings, loaded Nachos, cheesesteak quesadillas and soft pretzel bites) along with soups and salads (French Onion soup and House, Caesar, Wedge and Steak and Spinach salads.

“We’re not a beer and shot kind of place, but we’re also not a five star Zagat-rated restaurant. It’s a place that’s comfortable for family members and their children,” said Driscoll. “I want it to be a place where I would want to take my wife and my kids.”

Between renovations and the purchase of a liquor license, Driscoll poured more than $1.5 million into the Wycombe, including the conversion of four apartments on the second floor to handicapped accessible bathrooms, a small pool room and a private dining room for birthday parties and special occasions.

Renovations also included “an upscale” of the entire building, including rewiring the electrical system, the installation of new plumbing and addressing issues with the structure.

In addition, the Wycombe is boasting a new full service bar, a new bar top, new ceilings and a fresh coat of paint.

Driscoll also built a new handicapped accessible entryway at the side of the restaurant so patrons no longer have to walk to the front of the establishment to gain access.

The addition extends five feet from the side of the building, provides access to the main dining area for the handicapped and includes an ADA compliant restroom.

“Not only are we able to better accommodate the handicapped, there’s a bathroom right there and it would also make it easier to access the outdoor dining area without having to go through the entire restaurant,” said Driscoll.

And when the weather gets warmer, The Wycombe will feature an outdoor dining area with a small fire pit, seating for between 20 and 25 people and a limited bar.
