Local Pediatrician Had Marijuana Growing Operation: Police

Jan Widerman is facing two felonies in connection with the alleged growing operation at his Northampton Twp residence, court documents show.

According to court documents, Jan Widerman is facing two felonies and several misdemeanors in connection with the alleged growing operation. Wilderman had his first court appearance Monday.

Authorities discovered the growing operation after firefighters responded to the residence for a fire in the garage on Feb. 13, according to a press release from Northampton Township Police.

“In the process of evacuating the residents and animals from inside the property, personnel discovered a sophisticated marijuana growing operation inside the converted garage bays,” police said.

The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office approved a search warrant of the home and during the search, police removed a “large amount” of marijuana plants in various stages of development, authorities said.

According to police, the converted garage was equipped with special electric growing lamps, fertilizer and a homemade exhaust system. “In other parts of the home, police recovered bulk marijuana, packaging equipment, scales and drug paraphernalia,” police said.

Police also recovered more than $13,000 in cash from the home.

The investigating is ongoing, police said.

Widerman posted $100,000 unsecured bail following his Monday arraignment. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 10.

He is being represented by Newtown lawyer Louis R. Busico.
