Lurgan Road Reopens In Upper Makefield Township

PennDOT completes months long replacement of 114-year-old Lurgan Road Bridge with concrete box culvert.

UPPER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has completed construction on a project to replace the Lurgan Road bridge over a Branch of Pidcock Creek in Upper Makefield.

Under the project, PennDOT’s contractor replaced the 114-year-old bridge with a concrete box culvert. The structure carries an average of 971 vehicles per day.

Lurgan Road Bridge is one of seven structures in Bucks and Montgomery counties that PennDOT is rehabilitating or replacing under a $7.9 million project. To date, Ashbourne Road bridge over Branch of Tookany Creek in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, has also been completed, and so has the Lurgan Road bridge.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, was the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
