NEWTOWN, Pa. — Market Day returns to the streets of historic Newtown on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Presented by the Newtown Historic Association, Market Day is a celebration of Newtown's beginnings, paying homage to what life was like when farmers and craftspeople brought livestock, produce and hand forged wares to town to sell to the community.

Market Day has evolved over the last 45 years to include more than 100 fine artists and craftspeople of Bucks County, welcoming incredible talent. There will be a schedule of events for the day, including live music, artisan food and fun traditional events like a pie eating and corn shucking contest. There will be plenty for the children as well with scarecrow stuffing, a puppet show and historic reenactments in a colonial setting.

Hosted by Newtown’s own Marty Moss-Coane, guests will be transported back through the last 100 years of life in Newtown.

“My goal is that our Bucks County community looks forward to the first weekend in October as Newtown Market Day Weekend. With the addition of the Friday night event at the Historic Newtown Theater that will usher in Market Day in a profound way, I hope to bring awareness to the work the Newtown Historic Association is doing and has been doing for a long time. It is an incredible resource for our community.” said Ashara Shapiro, Market Day's new chairperson.

“A Night of Newtown Memories will serve as a great complement to our annual Market
Day, which will be held the next day on the streets around the Court Inn,” said Barry Fleck,
president of the Newtown Historic Association. “Newtown has a rich history, and this event will
bring it alive for guests.”
